Our adjudicator for 2026 is Jessie Paterson!
Jessie earned her ARCT in Speech Arts and Drama Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. She is a graduate of the visual arts program at The Vancouver Island School of Art with a focus on fibre and performance art, and she also holds a degree from the University of Victoria in Art History and Environmental Studies. With this background, Jessie brings an interdisciplinary approach to speech work. With an emphasis on connection to place, people, and story, she strongly believes that as we develop our communication and storytelling abilities, we bring about a more connected and compassionate world.
In collaboration with Oaklands Community Association in Victoria, Jessie teaches group speech and drama classes for children and youth. As a teacher, she is dedicated to helping students build confidence in their voices, fostering self-expression, and developing strong techniques for oral presentation through speech arts and drama activities.
Jessie is happy to be in Nanaimo for the Mid-Island Festival, and she looks forward to your performances.
